About the Library Director

Kim Kietzman, Library Director

Kim started out as a children's librarian in the Quad Cities and later accepted a position as branch manager. After the birth of her second child she worked as a reference librarian part-time at the Davenport Public Library. Missing children's services, she returned to serve as an area children's librarian in the Minneapolis Public Library. Due to layoffs, she returned to build Iowa's newest library in LeClaire and serve as director for several years. Following a stint as the administrator of Southeastern Library Services serving 15 counties in consulting, continiuing education and development, she was selected as the director in Altoona.

"Altoona was a deliberate choice. We had researched the area as a family and had narrowed down acceptable career moves to only a few cities in Iowa, and Altoona was one of them. This has been a great place for us to raise our two children and become part of the community. Altoona as a city has great vision and an amazing staff".

Kim has earned a B.A. and a Master's in Library Science from the University of Iowa and is a Certified Public Manager through a program at Drake University.
